Community Spotlight: Boozie Bitchez

Beer geeks like myself, enjoy searching and finding That. Perfect. Beer! But like an open freshie, they disappear and the search begins anew. During the age of Budweiser, Mikeys, and Rolling Rock, I don’t blame women for staying away, however, as the craft beer movement exploded and hop profiles crated masterpieces, women may be reluctant to dip their toe back in, but the Boozie Bitchez welcome all who want to explore the world of craft beer! We were lucky enough to have a conversation with the Boozie Bitchez (BB) and we just love them even more now! Check out the convo ⬇️

LOCL: When did you create Boozie Bitchez and how did you all start this group?

BB: We created the name & brand for our group in October of 2017. During this time we did not know any females that were into beers or working in the beer industry. We wanted a group that allowed more women to feel comfortable going out to breweries or events without being hounded by the dominate men in this industry. Over the years we have opened our arms to new members of the group from men to LGBTQ to everyone & anyone that wants to join a fun group that attends events or brewery hopping adventures.

LOCL: What type of events or gatherings does your group attended?

BB: We love attending beer festivals such as Concord Spring Brew Fest, Elk Grove Brew Fest, Sabroso Fest in Sacramento, and Punk in Drublic. We try to make monthly meet up spots for brewery hopping such as; East Bay we start at Ale Industry to Original Pattern and see where the trail leads us. Our recent favorite adventure has been the Peninsula Ale Trial that took our group all over the Bay Area peninsula into Half Moon Bay Area. The adventure was so fun that our group made it to 8 locations in one day. We also love supporting taprooms such as Taplands or The Halford when they doing events such as; trivia nights, arts & crafts pop ups or meet the brewery & brewers.

LOCL: Awww shucks, we’re sure glad you enjoyed the Pen Ale Trail!

LOCL: Are there any future plans in doing collabs with any other groups or breweries?

BB: We are doing a collab with G.P.O. Sacramento (Girls Pint Out) in the new year for a simple Brewery hopping in the Sacramento area. We will be joining a few meet ups with the ladies of G.P.O. San Francisco chapter as well. We would love to meet up with some female owned breweries in the area to do a tour and teach us the ins & outs of a brewer’s life in this industry (Shout out to S27 & Local — Let’s Meet Up!)

LOCL: Which events are a must attend for people to try out more new beers that you would recommend?

BB: Concord Spring Brew Fest that the Hop Grenade helps sponsor the event every spring around March/April. They always have over 50 breweries at the event and each booth has about 1-4 beers on tap to taste. One year a booth promoted 10 beers on tap! It’s from 12noon (VIP) or 1 pm GA until 4pm. Tasters all day long with food trucks and live local bands. We always make pretzels necklaces for this event. A new event we attended this year was Ales for ALS. What a great cause to support and meet brewers during tasting. Great waterfront view of the city at Fraction Brewery that sponsors this event. They had 20 breweries from the Bay Area that come out and chat with locals about their products and behind the scene secrets. We always try to find a new event to attended every year.

LOCL: Any future events that your group will be attending in 2023?

BB: We will be joining the Anderson Valley Brewery for their Annual Boonville Beerfest in April 2023 in Mendocino County. This event will have over 65 breweries booths with many mouth watering beers to taste. They will also be having live bands and food vendors. This event also donates all proceeds to local 501(c) non profit organizations. We will also return for our annual tradition for Concord Spring BrewFest.

LOCL: If someone wants to join your group; how would they go about reaching you?

BB: You can send us an email or DM us on IG: @BOOZIEBITCHEZ. If you find us at an event; just come up and say Hi and join the fun adventures! We inform the group what are the monthly plans we have on our IG story.

LOCL: Always looking for favorite places from like minded peeps, what are your favorite places to grab a bite!

BB: Harry’s Hofbrau Redwood City is a great local spot for comfort food in large servings. They also have a great beer tap list with about 20 beers in rotation. Limon in Burlingame is a great Peruvian restaurant that has a few other locations in the Bay Area. Everything on their menu is amazing and the Pisco Sours are a must!

LOCL: What is your favorite style or flavor profile of beer you’re into right now?

BB: We all like different beers which is great for the group. We honestly try them all when going to places. Especially new locations we try out for the first time. We get one of everything from Blondes to IPAs to Stouts and Sours.

LOCL: What’s your favorite breweries right now?

BB: Ohh, that’s a hard one. Well the place that started it all for us is Ale Industry (Oakland) will always be our top 10 favorites. Original Pattern (Oakland), Laughing Monk (San Francisco), Alpha Acid (Belmont), Old Caz (Rohnert Park) and Narrative Fermentation (San Jose).
